Essay – Some people believe that university students should be required to attend classes. Others believe that going to classes should be optional for students. Which point of view do you agree with? Use specific reasons and details to explain your answer.

Optional attendance to classes at universities has been an increasingly popular way for students to study for several years in quite a few countries. However, it has not yet had its intended results as it had been hoped. In fact, today, this system seems to be one of the reasons for the corruption of university education. In my opinion, compulsory attendance is better than having no requirement to attend all the lessons on-campus.

There are two points of view to this question. First, one side will say that university students are adults and should be able to manage their time as they see fit. This point of view says that sometimes, in today’s busy world, people need flexibility to manage their lives. For example, many single parents who are trying to earn their college degrees will sometimes need to skip a class because of the demands of their other responsibilities. However, I believe that the great majority of college students are young and single, and have few responsibilities, and that they need the discipline and structure of a system that requires attendance. Young people who have just gone off to college are notorious for the excesses to which they enjoy their freedom.

There are many negative situations caused by the free-attendance system. The most harmful one is the economic waste for both universities and students. Many students who do not attend classes regularly are likely to suffer decreased performance on their exams and therefore waste their time in college. They, generally, do not feel panic because of the failures or restudying the same subjects for the second time. However, this sometimes costs a fortune to both parents and the government that have created tax funded subsidies for education for each student every year. Not only are the university fees wasted, but also the money for accommodations and other spending are also wasted.

On the other hand, students who are required to attend classes regularly have no time to waste in pubs or clubs. Nor can they spend these young years, which are more valuable to them to learn and think than any other period in their lives, on gambling or drinking. I do not mean they are only to study without any break or entertainment. Their social life is as necessary as studying during the hard academic years, yet, the amount of each should be balanced well. More spare time than necessary encourages the young to ignore studying and classes. Thus, neither the universities nor the students do their best if the students have too much freedom not to study.

To sum up, many teenagers are not able to think sensibly to decide when to study and when to enjoy with friends. A scheduled chart of classes which have a huge number of options that are necessary to identify the best fitting one for each student, will help them to construct an ideal campus life including leisure activities. In addition, this will stop the waste of time and money and is likely to reevaluate the higher education system in several years. In short, I believe that the majority of college students are too young to manage their time responsibly and that universities should therefore impose strict rules on attendance.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to inform you that I will be attending the Advanced Life Insurance course, being held from Tuesday 24th April until 27rd April, at the University of Hartford.

I will be arriving on the afternoon of Monday 23th and will be leaving on the morning of Saturday the 28th of April, so I will require a single room for this time. I would prefer my own bathroom, if this is possible, but do not mind sharing if I have to; however, as I am wheelchair bound, the room will have to be disability friendly. Could you please tell me how much this will cost and how I should make a payment? Do you accept VISA?

As I do not know the area, I would also be grateful if you could provide some information about getting to and from the University. Will I need to take public transport from the station or is there a University bus service? Any information on what to see and do in the area would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance.

Dear Mr. Jones,

I am one of the tenants at your property in Upper Lewes Road, and am writing to complain about the fact that we do not have any hot water or heating in our house.

As you know, we have been living in this house since September and have always paid our rent on time. However, we have had no hot water for last two weeks. This is making our lives very difficult, especially as it is now the middle of winter. Last week you said you would send a workman to our house within 3 days, but no one came. After calling many times, the workman eventually arrived at the house 5 days later. Unfortunately, he said he could not fix the problem because the boiler was too old! We are now extremely unhappy about this solution.

We are prepared to continue to rent your house but please arrange for emergency repairs to be made. We also request a 40% discount on our rent for the period we have been without any hot water or heating.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Essay – Marketing strategy for some companies is, offers and discounts, for some it is reputation. Should consumer goods companies concentrate special discounts and offers to promote their products or they should focus on reputation? What do YOU think is more important?

Marketing strategy plays a crucial role in the growth of a firm. Many companies face this moot question that whether to focus on offers and discounts or to build stronger reputation. I would advocate to invest in special discounts and offers on regular intervals. This will aid in grabbing attention of more consumers and foster company’s turnover periodically.

To begin with, companies have to spend on advertising to promote special offer campaigns. For example, when Nestle promotes its Maggie noodles at special discounted price, it attracts more buyers than its standard price advert. This proves that Nestle will not only promote their product but also build a reputation in the market.

Moreover, short term discounts can boost up revenues of a company. Take for instance; Startups usually hit the market hard with weekly or monthly offers. This strategy usually generates decent revenues for that period. This example evidently shows that special offers can effectively contribute to the growth of a company. From this, it can be said that the former strategy can kill two birds in one shot.

In a nutshell, investing in discount and offers will reap more benefits as it also contributes to publicity for companies. Thus, it’s in the best interest of companies to promote their products in this manner. Therefore, I strongly believe adoption of this strategy can lead to expeditious progress.

Essay – Whether experimental learning (learning by doing) can work well in formal education. Agree/Disagree? OR Experience is a more effective way to teach as compared to books? Agree/Disagree?

Image result for experiential learning

Gaining knowledge and skills through practical and training, is more productive in comparison to learning only through textbooks. I agree to the above statement because it is the most effective way to remember the lesson, a person can learn how the bookish knowledge can be effectively utilized and opens up diverse ways to demonstrate creativity.

A student learns numerous lessons from the books, but experimenting that education will have a deeper impact on his mind. He would remember those lessons throughout his life. For instance in most of the Engineering curriculum a six months of practical and industry exposure is mandatory. This helps the students to utilize his bookish knowledge effectively in field.

Utilizing the knowledge gained through the education and implementing it practically, will help the student to apply that learning in his daily life. Thus the concepts are clarified when put to practical purpose. In this way a student develops skills and gain experience. For example, students studying in IIM (Indian Institute of Management) in India, learn the business strategies through simulating hundreds of case studies and comes up with diverse solutions. These solutions are then implemented in various business houses to achieve success.

Practical learning develops and brings out the creativity among the students. Instead of learning already established facts, they are encouraged to come with variety of solutions to a particular problem. A lot of inventions and discoveries are happening across the globe because of the creative minds which the students have developed. Steve Jobs, Bill Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison are few persons who have used their creativity to contribute to the mankind.

To encapsulate, learning through books and implementing the knowledge accordingly to create something new is the best way for effective learning.

Essay – In a cashless society, people use more credit cards. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this phenomenon?

Image result for credit cards

In today’s generation public is using the plastic money instead of cash. In my opinion the advantages of using credit cards removes the risk of carrying cash, can be used for all types of transactions globally and it is easy to carry. Simultaneously, the disadvantages includes its misuse, can be easily hacked and involves paying up high interest rates.

First of all, using plastic money removes the risk of carrying cash. Moving cash is a very expensive business, which involves lots of security and people are always under a threat of being looted. Credit cards and digital transactions minimize the danger of carrying high volumes of cash. Secondly, plastic money opens up many avenues for transaction globally. For instance, nowadays any product or services can be purchased globally, just by swiping the card or by digital payment. Also it is very easy to carry as it fits in the pocket and can be processed from any device.

On the contrary, there has been lots of instances where credit card has been misused. Credit card cloning is now a global phenomenon and millions of people have been deceived by it. Simultaneously people and organizations have been the victims of cyber hacking which have resulted in huge financial loss. No doubt, nowadays cyber laws have been introduced but there has been a tremendous rise in the online fraud which cannot be detected easily. In addition to it, credit cards are not accepted everywhere, especially in rural areas where there is less internet coverage. Lastly, using credit card is not always free, because it involves hidden charges and certain transaction charges which the customer has to bear. Also using the credit card is very tempting and often leads to needless shopping which increases the burden of the consumer.

To sum up, credit cards have their own pros and cons and it is up to the person how to make the best utilization of the technology.

Essay – Whether studying films at school is as important as studying literature?

Whether studying films at school is as important as studying literature?

Analyzing motion pictures while at a place of education is as vital as learning literature. I agree with the statement because studying films helps in developing creativity, is a source of inspiration for many students and it helps the child in choosing correct life principles which can shape the career of the student.

First of all, while researching films students can get attracted towards the theme of the film and get inspired to create and innovate in various fields of acting, writing, composing songs, singing, dancing and even choreography. Many leading directors of Bollywood were once students and when exposed to the films, they chose the career out of it. For instance Shahrukh Khan, Silverster Stallone are successful stars in movies just because of their original work.

Secondly, films are a source of inspiration for many students. Mahatma Gandhi took a vow to always speak the truth while he was watching the play of King Harish Chandra. This little spark of enthusiasm, if taken care and nurtured, can shape the personality of the students.

Further, many times the students pick up their lessons from the movies they watch. So it is essential for the schools to include inspirational films in the curriculum of the school. Movies like Benhur, Apollo 13, Life of pie, Dead Poet’s Society and Pursuit of Happiness are a great source of information and lessons for the students.

Finally, while studying literature one can only imagine the stories, but while viewing the film a student can see and remember the stories and the themes for a longer time. Accordingly, the literature films are also as essential.
