Essay Topic: Some people think studying from the past offers no benefits to today’s life, while others believe that history is a valuable source of information for us. Discuss both views and give our own opinion.

There has been considerable debate about the values of studying history. While it is argued that there are no advantages of learning history, I believe that history can bring more benefits.

It is claimed that it is not beneficial to learn from the past. At various schools, students may put exam-based learning methods into practice to satisfy the requirements of exams and tests. Consequently, they are obliged to make every effort to memorize historical developments and events. In several cases, they get stressful and overloaded with history related knowledge which does not provide foundations for their doing research into scientific fields like engineering or medicine. For example, in my hometown, most school students apply test-oriented approaches in historical lessons, causing students to be bombarded with historical knowledge, which is not beneficial in supplying background knowledge for them to realize their dream to major in computer engineering or medical sciences at university.

Nonetheless, from my viewpoint, history should become a more precious informative source. Thanks to history classes or museum artifacts related to past wars, there is every likelihood of young generations accumulating a profound knowledge of the sacrifice and contributions of their ancestors in the resistance war against foreign invaders, followed by cultivating their national pride and patriotism. As a result, they may have a tendency to be supplied with motivation and inspiration to put almost every effort into perfecting themselves and making contributions to national development. Another explanation may be that no sooner are students exposed to history lectures than they could enhance their understanding of valuable lessons about successes and failures in the process of predecessors’ national construction and defense. Hence, they might reach higher maturity and greater confidence in avoiding the same mistakes and making wise decisions for their future careers and life.

In conclusion, although people think history lessons can be of no importance, I am of the opinion that there are more benefits of studying history as a huge reservoir of knowledge.

Many people are afraid to leave their homes because of the fear of crime. Some believe that more actions should be taken to prevent crime. Others feel that little can be done. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

The popularity of crime today has made people stay indoors for self-protection. While it is a common belief that reducing the crime rate is a nearly impossible mission, I hold the view that there are certain measures which can convert the world into a safer place to live in.

On the one hand, many people argue that in such current era of moral decadence, any attempts to prevent crime would turn out to be a failure. Poverty and unemployment are considered chief precursors to law violation, and only when these two social issues are eliminated, crime will disappear. However, it is true that a society can only provide a limited 48 number of jobs for its residents, and those who are not lucky enough to receive good education from childhood would find it difficult to pursue a career to make ends meet. Such individuals are lack of both skills and orientation, and from their perspective, becoming a thief might be a better way to survive compared to unstably living on governmental subsidies or performing menial work. It seems that the root of this problem cannot be solved completely, and this is why how to halt law-breaking may remain as an insurmountable question for the government.

On the other hand, I am of the opinion that there are still solutions to maintain criminal justice. Firstly, stricter sets of laws are required, and the penalties should be corresponding to the severity of the wrongdoings. In a variety of countries, such as the United Kingdom or Italy, the capital punishment has been abandoned; but I believe it should be reintroduced as the fear of death may deter the potential offenders and stop them from committing serious crime. Secondly, the government should encourage companies and organizations to expand and run more projects. These actions create jobs; therefore, those who live under the poverty line not only do not have to become pickpockets or burglars for survival but also stand a chance to earn a living with their own clean money.

In conclusion, I believe that the aforementioned measures can create more peaceful communities and ensure the safety of the residents.

Do you think consumers should avoid over packaged products or is it the responsibility of producers?

Image result for over packaging examples

In my opinion over packaged products poses a threat to the environment and it should be reduced to a bare minimum level. According to me both the customers and the manufactures should share the responsibility of this burden.

First of all, during the festive seasons the products are over packed unnecessarily, just to give a flashy and gaudy look. After opening the product, the wrappings are discarded. The plastic material used for the packaging when dumped does not get decomposed and is consumed by the stray animals. So at the consumer end, people should avoid buying such over packaged products. In addition people should also organize awareness campaigns on social media and other platforms about the ill effects of the discarded packaging materials.

On the other hand, producers should also understand their responsibility regarding the use of packaging material. Nowadays lot of research is going on to invent new and unique packaging materials. The nature of packaging industry is changing dramatically. According to the new regulations virgin or raw plastic usage is being reduced. Instead companies are being encouraged to use recyclable and re-usable plastic. Companies like Nestle and PepsiCo already have started using this practice. Research is going on to develop new fiber based packaging material. Robotics is also being introduced to develop smart packaging to cut down the food wastage. Many companies are changing to bio-active packaging which has a positive effect on the consumer’s health. In addition, active packaging is also gaining popularity to satisfy the consumer’s demand for natural, recyclable and biodegradable packaging material.

To recapitulate, it can be said that over packaged products can be easily avoided by the consumers to send a message across the producers who can shift to safer ways of packaging.

Research indicates that characteristics we are born with have more influence on our personality and development than any experience we may have in our life. Which do you consider to be the major influence?

Image result for personality

Study points out that the people born with certain inherent traits have an astounding effect on their personality and growth, in comparison with experience and knowledge they gain during their lifetime. In my opinion, the qualities which a person inherits at the time of birth do affect the building of a personality, but gaining experience and knowledge has a profound influence in shaping the personality.

Personality is a set of characteristics that reflect the way we think and act in a given situation. It is formed by four basic elements that are physical environment, heredity, culture and particular experiences. An individual develops his personality with a combination of these four aspects. When an individual is encountered with different situations he responds to them uniquely. These responses develop into habits and thus form a personality type. For example when Mahatma Gandhi was humiliated and thrown out of the train for riding first class, he responded strongly in a non violent way, and started a freedom struggle. That was a turning point in his life that shaped his personality and destiny.

With the new experience, a person develops new habits, develops etiquette and forms new attitudes. These are the stepping stones to form a personality. It has been noted that, whatever a child imbibes during the first seven years, forms the foundation of his personality. The new observations and experiences make a lasting impression on his mind. For instance Thomas Edison was expelled from the school during his childhood, but his mother didn’t make him realize about the fact. She encouraged and taught Edison at home, who turned out to become one of the world’s greatest scientist.

To recapitulate, it can be said that genetic traits do affect the personality of a person to some extent, but the environment in which he is brought up and the experiences that a person go through, deeply impact the personality.

Essay – How widely do you think the problem spreads that people spend too much time on work than their personal life and experience time shortage? What problems will it cause?

Image result for spending too much time at work

The issue that people are putting long hours of work and spending less time towards their personal life is widespread, because of cut throat competition, rising economic inequality and travelling far for work. Because of this phenomenon, it leads to decreased productivity, sour relationships and rise in health problems.

In today’s rat race, majority of the people feel financial insecure, which leads them to work overtime to prove their work to their employers. Secondly, sometimes it is very important for the people to do more than one job to keep both ends meet. Ferocious competition and meeting deadlines has further compelled the workers to spend more time at the workplace. For instance, people working for BPO’s and KPO’s often put in extra hours of work to earn additional income.

Spending longer hours in workplace often leads to health problems like, stress, depression, heart problems, obesity and back pain. In India certain types of jobs like in police and other armed forces, people have to spend long hours of duty and away from home for a long time. This often sets in lots of stress and depression among the soldiers which has even led to committing suicide. Secondly, spending less time with the family often sours the relationships and can lead to divorce. Moreover, children can often indulge in bad habits in the absence of crucial parental guidance. Lastly, putting in more time at work can reduce the productivity of the workers. It is said “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”

Finally, it can be concluded that giving time for personal life is also very important, because it rejuvenates and prepare people to cope up with all adversities at the workplace.

Essay – Marketing strategy for some companies is, offers and discounts, for some it is reputation. Should consumer goods companies concentrate special discounts and offers to promote their products or they should focus on reputation? What do YOU think is more important?

Marketing strategy plays a crucial role in the growth of a firm. Many companies face this moot question that whether to focus on offers and discounts or to build stronger reputation. I would advocate to invest in special discounts and offers on regular intervals. This will aid in grabbing attention of more consumers and foster company’s turnover periodically.

To begin with, companies have to spend on advertising to promote special offer campaigns. For example, when Nestle promotes its Maggie noodles at special discounted price, it attracts more buyers than its standard price advert. This proves that Nestle will not only promote their product but also build a reputation in the market.

Moreover, short term discounts can boost up revenues of a company. Take for instance; Startups usually hit the market hard with weekly or monthly offers. This strategy usually generates decent revenues for that period. This example evidently shows that special offers can effectively contribute to the growth of a company. From this, it can be said that the former strategy can kill two birds in one shot.

In a nutshell, investing in discount and offers will reap more benefits as it also contributes to publicity for companies. Thus, it’s in the best interest of companies to promote their products in this manner. Therefore, I strongly believe adoption of this strategy can lead to expeditious progress.

Essay – Whether experimental learning (learning by doing) can work well in formal education. Agree/Disagree? OR Experience is a more effective way to teach as compared to books? Agree/Disagree?

Image result for experiential learning

Gaining knowledge and skills through practical and training, is more productive in comparison to learning only through textbooks. I agree to the above statement because it is the most effective way to remember the lesson, a person can learn how the bookish knowledge can be effectively utilized and opens up diverse ways to demonstrate creativity.

A student learns numerous lessons from the books, but experimenting that education will have a deeper impact on his mind. He would remember those lessons throughout his life. For instance in most of the Engineering curriculum a six months of practical and industry exposure is mandatory. This helps the students to utilize his bookish knowledge effectively in field.

Utilizing the knowledge gained through the education and implementing it practically, will help the student to apply that learning in his daily life. Thus the concepts are clarified when put to practical purpose. In this way a student develops skills and gain experience. For example, students studying in IIM (Indian Institute of Management) in India, learn the business strategies through simulating hundreds of case studies and comes up with diverse solutions. These solutions are then implemented in various business houses to achieve success.

Practical learning develops and brings out the creativity among the students. Instead of learning already established facts, they are encouraged to come with variety of solutions to a particular problem. A lot of inventions and discoveries are happening across the globe because of the creative minds which the students have developed. Steve Jobs, Bill Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison are few persons who have used their creativity to contribute to the mankind.

To encapsulate, learning through books and implementing the knowledge accordingly to create something new is the best way for effective learning.
