The issue that people are putting long hours of work and spending less time towards their personal life is widespread, because of cut throat competition, rising economic inequality and travelling far for work. Because of this phenomenon, it leads to decreased productivity, sour relationships and rise in health problems.
In today’s rat race, majority of the people feel financial insecure, which leads them to work overtime to prove their work to their employers. Secondly, sometimes it is very important for the people to do more than one job to keep both ends meet. Ferocious competition and meeting deadlines has further compelled the workers to spend more time at the workplace. For instance, people working for BPO’s and KPO’s often put in extra hours of work to earn additional income.
Spending longer hours in workplace often leads to health problems like, stress, depression, heart problems, obesity and back pain. In India certain types of jobs like in police and other armed forces, people have to spend long hours of duty and away from home for a long time. This often sets in lots of stress and depression among the soldiers which has even led to committing suicide. Secondly, spending less time with the family often sours the relationships and can lead to divorce. Moreover, children can often indulge in bad habits in the absence of crucial parental guidance. Lastly, putting in more time at work can reduce the productivity of the workers. It is said “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”
Finally, it can be concluded that giving time for personal life is also very important, because it rejuvenates and prepare people to cope up with all adversities at the workplace.
