In underdeveloped countries, tourism has disadvantages and can be said the opposite as well. Discuss
In some nations, which are not developed, have multiple drawbacks in regards to the tourism but on the other hand, there are few countries which have taken the advantage of tourism and are prospering. In, my opinion the advantage of tourism in underdeveloped countries outweighs the disadvantages because tourism generates income and creates jobs which are essential for the sustainability of the nation. On the contrary, certain countries should focus on stabilising the current burning issues of the country, before venturing in tourism.
Tourism is a growing industry worldwide. With tourism, lots of people get employment and the local business flourishes. Tourism brings with itself a huge inflow of foreign currency, which strengthens the economy of the country. Many people in the service industry like hotels, transportation, restaurants gets employment and are engaged. For instance, Nepal is well known for the world’s highest mountain peak “Mount Everest”. Multiple tourists flock Nepal every year for mountaineering and sports. In the due course, the Nepali locals are involved in providing the best service to the foreigners and thus earn their living. In addition to it, a good economy would also ensure best facilities for tourists, who give a positive feedback and in return brings in more tourists. Subsequently, it is up to the government of the country to highlight its uniqueness and portray to the world and build its brand value. To illustrate this, In India foreigners visit the country to learn Yoga, enjoy nat urotherapy and study the historical monuments like Taj Mahal.
On the other hand, certain underdeveloped countries like Somalia, Afghanistan, Syria are always engaged in local war, which prevents the tourists from visiting them. Furthermore, other issues like political instability, internal conflicts, terrorism, racism, epidemics and illegal drug activities further deteriorate the chances of tourism development. The first priority of the country is to neutralise these issues and then focus on the tourism. Many underdeveloped countries like Ethiopia, Congo are still struggling to arrange food, medicine and basic facilities for their citizens, So, it would be in best interest for these countries to focus on their development rather than tourism.
Finally, promoting tourism in underdevelopment will always be a challenge, but with a political will, it can lead the country to prosperity.
